If you are part of the BDSM lifestyle, you know that a good spreader bar or two can be essential pieces of bondage equipment. There are many times when you just don’t need your slave/sub being able to prevent access by closing their legs. To that end, today we review the Fetish Fantasy Series Spread ‘Em Bar and Cuff Set.

We purchased our set at Sextoy.com. They carry much of the Fetish Fantasy Series line in their bondage section, as well as many other fun toys.

The set comes in a nice little carrying pouch that is lockable (lock included) so nobody can peek at your toys. This is nice for anyone storing their gear somewhere prying eyes may be. Once opened, the set includes one long bar, one short bar, two ankle cuffs, two wrist cuffs, and a collar. The cuffs and collar are all detachable from the bars, so if you have your own set, you can easily use that instead. That being said, the cuffs that come with the set don’t look like much, but do a very good job at keeping someone restrained. They are nylon and neoprene cuffs with Velcro closures that hold really well. The Velcro makes it easy to adjust size and makes for easy on and off. The only small complaint would be that it is easy to pinch some skin in the cuff while closing it, so be careful while applying. I was very skeptical as to these cuffs ability to hold me, but they hold very well. Are they inescapable, no, especially since you can undo the snap hooks if you have a little dexterity, but for some quick bondage, they are plenty good enough.

Now let’s move on to the bars themselves. They are lightweight aluminum, quite sturdy, and do a great job at being, well, bars. They have eye hooks on either end, and the long bar has two rings situated towards the center for attaching things to. The smaller bar has the eye hooks on the ends, and one center ring. There is also a nylon strap permanently attached to the short bar with a ring on the end to attach the collar to. The setup is pretty basic and works well for most uses.

The only complaints I have about this set are that the bars could stand to be a little longer and I wish the nylon collar strap was not permanently affixed to the short bar. Both of these are very small complaints. All in all this set performed quite admirably as what I feel it was created for, and that is some light bondage fun. At a price of around $65, you get a very nice little set to add to your toybox.

We had been looking at a set of door dam cuffs for awhile, as we like to travel, and they seem like a great way to have some bondage fun almost anywhere. After looking around, we picked the Fetish Fantasy Series Door Jam Cuff Set. We ordered the set from sextoy.com. They have a very large variety of different sex toys, including a good size bondage section, at reasonable prices.

When we received the set, we noticed that, as with all of this series of products, they come in a nice box with good product pictures. It’s nice to see that fetish items have come far enough in the last few years that they actually get the same Marketing treatment as any vanilla product you’d buy at a big box store.

Marketing aside, let’s get to the actual product. The set comes with 4 door jam tethers, which each consist of a plastic bar at the end of an adjustable nylon strap, and four neoprene (the box says velvet, but they sure seem like neoprene) cuffs, two ankle and two wrist. That’s not bad for $28.86. We have seen some leather ones for more than this for a set of two. Given, they may look the part a little more, but they all do basically the same thing, so we felt it wasn’t worth the extra money.

The cuffs come completely assembled, so all you have to do is open a door, throw two bars over the top, slide two under the bottom, close the door, pull tight and you’re ready to hook up your submissive for a night of bondage fun. It really couldn’t be much easier.

Not having used door jam tethers before, after being hooked up, I gave them a very tentative tug, to make sure everything would hold. I’m proud to report that, not only do they hold in the door, but I can lean my entire weight forward on them and they feel as solid as a D-ring bolted into a wall stud. Once that door is closed, unless it has a lot of empty space between it and the door jam, those things aren’t going anywhere. On that same note, the cuffs are quite strong as well. Since we like to consider ourselves relatively hard core bondage enthusiasts, I wasn’t in love with the Velcro closures, but they held firm. There was no way I could pull out of those without undoing that Velcro strap.

I do have two complaints about the set. The first isn’t really a big deal, but is worth noting. The cuffs, while soft and comfortable, are quite thin, so if you lean any weight on them for a decent period of time they can cut off circulation and will leave a mark on your wrists or ankles. This is the way it is with almost all cuffs though, unless you want to spend a lot of money on them, so I don’t really consider it a knock on the item. For under $30 you should already know that this will most likely be the case.

The second complaint though is a little more serious. The tethers are quite long, even when adjusted down to their shortest length. This means that, unless you are working with a door that is ridiculously wide, you will be able to reach across with one hand and undo the Velcro strap for easy escape. This may not be an issue for many people, but for someone like me, whose mantra is, “if I can escape, it’s not bondage”, it is a large issue. Mistress was able to take care of the problem by taping my hands into fists, but we really don’t think we should have to do that to make the item work. The length also allows too much movement for the submissive. I was able to turn my body around with no problem, which, IMHO is a problem.

All in all, for someone who is just looking to have a little bondage fun, the Fetish Fantasy Series Door Jam Cuff Set is a good buy at a good price. For more serious bondage players, you may want to pony up the extra cash and get better set of short tethers, use your own cuffs and a couple of locks, and have a relatively escape proof setup on any door.

No good dungeon is complete without a hoist. It was the first item we purchased for ours, and has become one of the most useful tools we have. With the right accessories a hoist can replace many larger pieces of bondage furniture. The best part is, if you hang it in a garage or work room, you can pass it off to vanilla friends!

Before running out and buying a hoist, there are a couple of things you need to know. The first is that you need access to an attic or some way to get to a ceiling beam. Most electric hoists mount with two brackets that go over the beam and bolt directly into the hoist housing. Since the hoist itself can weigh from 30 to 50 pounds plus the weight you suspend from it you need to be sure to follow the directions carefully. Even worse than falling down because it won’t hold your weight is a 50 pound metal object falling on top of you. So please be careful!

The next important thing to do is decide how much weight you need the hoist to support. Many hoists will give you two numbers (i.e. 440lb/880lb). These numbers are the weight it will hold with the cable singled or doubled. I recommend getting a weight rating that is a decent amount higher than you think you need. It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Electric hoists are definitely easier to use and, in my opinion, better than a manual chain hoist (If you are the type that just loves the sound of chains rattling as you slowly hoist up your sub, then disregard that last statement). We decided on the Chicago Electric 440lb/880lb Electric Hoist from Harbor Freight Tools. It was relatively inexpensive, especially with the 20% off coupons you can usually find for Harbor Freight, and met all of our needs.

The installation is definitely a two person job. One has to hold the hoist up, while the other bolts it in. Once attached to the ceiling beam, plug it in, remove the tape around the cable, and you are ready to go.

The hoist is easy to operate. It has a wired remote with a two way switch, one for up and one for down. We have had my 210lb self suspended in a hanging cage that weighed around 25lbs with absolutely no issues.

There are many items that, with a few accessories, the hoist can replace. We purchased a steel spreader bar with chain and it pretty much replaces a St Andrew’s cross and allows access to both front and back. As I mentioned earlier, we also have a hanging cage that is very fun. The things you can do with it are really only limited by your kinky imagination!

After having our hoist for about 3 years the remote burnt out, so we replaced it with the same model. That being said, even if you have to replace it every 3 years its cost winds up being about $40 a year. That is pretty cost effective for a “go to” play item.

The last thing I want to mention is to always be safe when using the hoist. It is very easy to hurt someone if suspending them with the wrong cuffs, poorly placed rope, etc. Make sure you do your research before performing any suspension scenes. That being said, have fun!

I want to apologize for the lack of postings in the past 2 months. The Holidays ate up a lot of my time as well as work. We did go to NYC for Christmas and did some shopping at Purple Passion and The Leather Man, so I will have some new gear reviews up in the next couple of weeks. We’re also almost done with building our first smother box and, if it works as well as we hope, I will post the pics and a rudimentary “how to”.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday season and thanks for reading. I’d like the site to grow in 2010, so let all of your friends know about us!

It occured to me while writing my last review that it looks like I might as well work for Extreme Restraints, since it seems like much of our gear comes from there.  We do buy a lot from them, but I wanted to give a little more information as to where we look when trying to find new gear.

When there’s a sale, or an item that is unique, we definitely go to Extreme Restraints.  Their items can be a bit pricey, but the sales usually bring them into line with other vendors.  We’ve found that their quality is always great, they ship pretty quickly, and their customer service is good.  We’ve had only one return there, for a ripped seam on our Darlex Sleepsack, and they had no problem replacing it for us.

Another great source for gear is eBay.  You can find almost anything you can find in the fetish shops on there.  The only worry there is quality.  We’ve found some really good sellers who have great quality and prices, but we’ve also had a few really bad items.  All I can say about eBay is do your research.  Look at feedback posted by others before buying from a seller.  If you are patient and don’t mind dealing with a few sketchy sellers, you can really get some awesome deals.

We also have bought from sub-shop.com.  Their prices are very high, but they also have good sales and can have some amazing bargains in their clearance section.  Their selection is also second to none.  I’ve never had to return anything from them, but have dealt with customer service when some items were not in stock.  They were always very prompt and helpful.  If you don’t mind the prices, or are willing to wait for something to go on clearance, they are definitely an excellent choice.

We will also plan on going to all of the local fetish shops when we travel. The prices are usually a little higher than online, but you can find some really unique items and you get the added bonus of being able to touch and feel the item. We have found some really good deals in some shops as well. Some of our favorites are Mr. S in San Francisco, Purple Passion in New York, and The Crypt on Park in San Diego.

I do a lot of research online before purchasing most items, and am always on the lookout for a new shop or a different item. If you put a little time into it you can get some great items to add to your collection at decent prices. I am also always willing to help out a fellow fetushist, so feel free to emil me with any thoughts or questions.

One of the first pieces of gear purchased after meeting my Mistress almost five years ago was the Strict Leather Deluxe Padded Fist Mitts from Extreme Restraints. At the time, the “Strict Leather” name wasn’t attached, but the item does not appear to have changed at all, just the branding. Going on five years later, the same set of fist mitts is still a staple in our gear collection. While they may be a bit pricey, $128.00 last I checked, it is a testament to their quality that we are still using them today.

One of the main reasons I love this item is that Mistress can put them on me, lock them, and leave me almost completely helpless without any other bondage. Once the straps are pulled tight and locked, there is no way these are coming off without the key. They keep your hands balled into a relatively tight fist and the padding just adds to the helplessness as your hands are now completely useless. Since I am the type of slave that is always trying to escape, Mistress loves that they keep my hands out of trouble.

Fist mitts are also a great item because they are comfortable enough for long term wear. I often sleep in mine and have been in them for as over 15 hours with no problems other than a little hand cramping. Having these is a great way to keep your slave in overnight bondage, but not make it so uncomfortable that they can’t get any rest.

Without a doubt, if you are into bondage, these are a must have for any collection. They are amazingly well constructed, very durable, render the wearer’s hands useless, and look pretty damn good as well.

One of my favorite fetishes is mummification. Here is a pretty nice tape mummification from YouTube. You may want to turn your volume down as the music is pretty bad.

BTW, I’ll have some reviews posted shortly. Had family in town for a week, so I got behind.
